The Army ordered seven more Q-53 radars in an effort to help soldiers protect themselves against enemy fires and other persistent threats on the battlefield, Lockheed said Monday.
Q-53s are designed to provide military users with 90- or 360-degree surveillance coverage area and operate with laptops or climate-controlled command vehicles.
Lockheed manufactures the system at the company’s facilities in New York, Florida and New Jersey.
The company said it has delivered 55 Q-53s to the Army to date and expects the military branch to award the company a contract in early 2016 for the full-rate production of an additional 77 systems.
