TYSONS CORNER, VA August 5, 2015 â Defense and military officials concluded a round of intercept flight test events for the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System at the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Hawaii last week, ExecutiveBiz reported Tuesday.
During the exercise, the USS John Paul Jones detected, tracked and engaged multiple targets with Raytheon-made (NYSE: RTN) Standard Missile-3 missiles using Aegis, developed by Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), MDA said Monday.
“This important test campaign not only demonstrated an additional terminal defense layer of the BMDS, it also proved the robustness of the multiuse SM-6 missile onboard a Navy destroyer, further reinforcing the dynamic capability of the Aegis Baseline 9 weapon system, ” said MDA Director Vice Adm. James D. Syring.
