Orbital ATK to Deliver More Polar-Orbiting Satellites to NASA, NOAA


Orbital ATKOrbital ATK (NYSE: OA) will design, manufacture, integrate and test the Joint Polar Satellite System 2 spacecraft under a $253 million delivery order from NASA through the Rapid Spacecraft Acquisition III contract vehicle.

NASA said Monday the company will also provide mission operations support and five Flight Segment Emulators for JPSS-2, which will support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration‘s weather-forecasting operations.

The delivery order for JPSS-2 runs through July 2020 and includes a four-year, $130 million option for JPSS-3 and another four-year, $87 million option for JPSS-4, the agency added.

The overall JPSS program, which leverages the long-term partnership of NASA and NOAA,  will extend satellite operations through 2038 if all options are exercised.
