Tyto Athene Acquires Microtel to Expand Space System Capabilities; Dennis Kelly Quoted

Tyto Athene, a portfolio company of Washington, D.C.-based private investment firm Arlington Capital Partners, has closed its purchase of software development firm Microtel for an undisclosed sum as part of a push to broaden its customer relationships and space system capabilities.

Microtel is a systems engineering firm that develops mission-critical flight software used to operate rovers, robotic spacecraft and other onboard flight applications used to support space missions of NASA and international space programs, Arlington Capital said Monday.

Tyto Athene CEO Dennis Kelly said Microtel has a team of hands-on technologies with deep expertise in software development and artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.

“We look forward to leveraging our combined capabilities to further our growth and bring new innovations to our customer’s mission,” Kelly added.

Herndon, Virginia-based Tyto Athene is a federal systems integrator focused on delivering mission-focused digital transformation platforms and support to U.S. defense, intelligence, space and public safety agencies worldwide.

The McLean Group served as the exclusive financial adviser to Microtel on the deal, according to a representative from the investment bank and financial services firm.
