Orbital Sciences to Operate NASA Balloon Program Facilities

Orbital Sciences Corp. (NYSE: ORB) has won a potential $186.3 million contract to operate NASA‘s balloon program.

Orbital Sciences will perform the work at the Goddard Space Flight Center and three other facilities in Virginia,  New Mexico and Texas, NASA said Thursday.

The task is schedule to take place between Feb. 1, 2015, and Sept. 30, 2016, under a basic core contract worth $64.9 million.

The first option of the contract is worth $75.9 million with a two-year period of performance and the second option is for 16 months with a value of $45.5 million.

Orbital will also provide support services for launching and recovery of the scientific balloons, quality control and balloon research and development.
