Fred Byus Appointed Battelle Maritime Systems GM

Battelle w:borderFred Byus, a retired U.S. Navy rear admiral and formerly a group vice president at Battelle, has been appointed general manager of the nonprofit science and technology organization’s maritime systems unit.

The 31-year Navy veteran has served as VP of Battelle’s Navy market group since December 2007 and was a board member at Battelle subsidiary Bluefin Robotics between 2008 and 2013, Battelle said Tuesday.

He will continue to work with the Bluefin team in his new role.

“I’m honored to lead Battelle’s efforts in the rapid development, transition, and deployment of technologies in support of sustaining U.S. undersea dominance in addition to helping industry partners safely operate in the oceans wherever required, ” Byus said.

Byus’ naval career includes leadership roles in nuclear engineering, command and control, joint forces and fleet management.

He also served as an oceanographer, navigator and a commander of Naval Forces Korea, Submarine Squadron Seven and the USS Tautog.
