He will also hold the title of president at the commercial research firm and Lead Director Chris Coughlin will assume the nonexecutive chairman role when Mathew retires, D&B said Tuesday.
Mathew, who announced her retirement in May, will also step down from her seat on the board of directors but will continue with the company to help with the leadership transition.
Carrigan took the CEO post at IDG in 2008 after serving as president and CEO of its U.S. business units, among other senior leadership roles.
Prior to IDG, he spent four years at AOL (NYSE: AOL) and served as senior vice president of the interactive marketing group.
