American Systems has named John Manning vice president of the company’s acquisition and logistics strategic business area, the company announced Monday.

That business area provides professional management and advisory services for customers with large acquisition and supply chain programs.

He will be responsible for driving new business opportunities, the company said.

Chief Operating Officer Peter Smith said the company appointed Manning for his understanding of the acquisition process and of integrated logistics support elements.

Prior to joining American Systems, Manning worked as business development director for CDI Corp., an engineering and technology services firm.

He also held an executive sales position at Perot Systems and spent time in the public sector.

The two-decade Navy veteran retired from the force in 2001, when he stationed as military staff in the Executive Office of the President.

In late February, the company named Mark Fry regional representative for operations in Huntsville, Ala.
