Lockheed Wins $391M In Army Radar Orders; Lee Flake Comments

Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE: LMT) has won $391 million in production orders to produce new radar systems for the U.S. Army, the company announced Monday.

The order exercises two contract options for 33 AN/TPQ-53 radars, used for counterfire target acquisition.

If all options are exercised, total contract value would reach more than $800 million.

The radar detects, classifies, tracks and determines the location of enemy indirect fire in either 90- or 360-degree modes, according to Lee Flake, program director for counterfire target acquisition radar programs.

First delivery of the radars is scheduled for 2014 and work will occur in Syracuse, N.Y., Moorestown, N.J., Akron, Ohio, and Clearwater, Fla.

The Navy also recently awarded Lockheed $1 billion for branch with digital cockpits, mission systems and sensors for helicopters.
