General Dynamics to Update FAA Air Traffic Radios on $363M IDIQ

General Dynamics’ (NYSE: GD) C4 systems business unit has won a potential $363 million Federal Aviation Administration contract to provide the agency with new air traffic control radios.

The Falls Church, Va.-based company said Tuesday the 10-year indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract supports the FAA’s Next Generation Air-Ground Communications Segment 2 program.

The agency will use the company’s CM-300/350 version 2 UHF/VHF radios to communicate with commercial and military aircraft through the National Airspace System.

The new models will include Voice over Internet Protocol capabilities and will aim to replace outmoded air traffic control air-to-ground radios, the company said.

The company first delivered the radios to the FAA in 1992 and has delivered over 13, 500 UHF radios under the agency’s NEXCOM UHF contract, awarded in 2001.

In November 2011, the C4 unit won a potential $64.5 million contract to add capabilities to the military’s wideband network waveform.
