General Dynamics Closes Purchase of Norfolk Ship Repair Company

General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) has completed its acquisition of East Coast surface-ship repair company Metro Machine Corp., which provides support to the U.S. Navy fleet in Norfolk, Va.

The amount of the cash transaction has not been disclosed.

The company will be integrated into San Diego-based General Dynamics NASSCO, a prime contractor on multi-ship, multi-option awards for Naval combat and support ships.

Metro Machine will will assist with shipbuilding and repair operations.

“The addition of Metro Machine enhances our ability to compete in the growing naval ship repair market, ” said Fred Harris, president of General Dynamics NASSCO. “We have added a solid team with a successful track record that will strengthen our ability to deliver cost-effective maintenance and repair services to the U.S. Navy on the East Coast.”
