Turner and partner Smoot Construction Co. will repair the dome’s structural cracks and repaint exterior walls, among other renovation activities, Turner said Wednesday.
The Capitol dome was constructed more than 150 years ago and has deteriorated due to weather damage, Turner says.
Chris Jahrling, Turner vice president and general manager, said the company has provided public structure restoration services for 50 years.
Turner/Smoot will cover the Capitol’s cast-iron dome with scaffolding while repairs go on and will perform most of the work at night.
