Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and T-Mobile USA (Nasdaq: TMUS) have won contracts worth approximately $683.7 million combined from the Department of Veterans Affairs under the second iteration of the Enterprise Mobile Devices and Services program.
The contracts awarded to Verizon and T-Mobile are valued at $448.3 million and $235.4 million, respectively, according to award notices published Wednesday.
The EMDS recompete is a potential nine-year contract vehicle that VA can use to acquire cellular and wireless devices and services in support of VA medical centers, community-based outpatient clinics, field and program offices and remote users across the U.S. and other sites overseas.
The follow-on contract includes the delivery of voice, text and data services and calls for the vendor to provide tools, materials, labor, management support and equipment to perform all contract requirements.
EMDS 2 also covers the integration of emerging technologies and use of a wireless public safety broadband network to support communications during disaster recovery missions and other emergencies.
“The scope of this work shall also include ebonding to interface with the VA Electronic Telecom Expense Management System when needed,” according to the performance work statement.
