The Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Customs and Border Protection has awarded Unissant a potential five-year, $166.4 million contract for vetting workflow support services.

Data and technology increasingly underpin how CBP and other DHS components protect the nation’s borders and critical infrastructure. Sonny Bhagowalia, chief information officer and assistant commissioner of the Office of Information and Technology at CBP, will deliver a keynote address at the Potomac Officers Club’s 2026 Homeland Security Summit on Nov. 10, where DHS decision-makers and industry leaders will discuss AI for investigative intelligence, edge capabilities for border defense, federated data fabrics, counter-unmanned aircraft systems and more. Register now to hear from the officials shaping homeland security tech priorities.
Unissant said Tuesday it will continue the work for CBP as the prime contractor.
The award extends work the company first took on more than five years ago. In 2020, Unissant won a potential $182.3 million contract to provide vetting workflow processing services for CBP’s targeting and analysis systems program directorate. The company’s teaming partners on that award were Linkware and SAIC.
What Did Unissant Officials Say About the CBP Award?
Sumeet Shrivastava, president and CEO of Unissant, said the company’s partnership with CBP grew out of years of work on a national security mission.
“We are proud of the trust CBP has placed in Unissant and the opportunity to continue this work. We look forward to bringing the same mission focus and commitment to delivery over the next five years,” he added.
Alka Bhave, chief operating officer and general manager of national security at Unissant, noted that the company’s teams understand what CBP’s mission requires of its technology.
“This award allows us to continue building on that experience, bringing proven delivery and a deep understanding of CBP’s mission,” said Bhave, who assumed both roles in December 2025.
What Is Unissant?
Unissant is a Herndon, Virginia-based federal contractor that supports national security and federal health missions, applying data and AI to help agencies turn advanced concepts into operational capability.
The CBP award follows several other recent developments at Unissant. In a recent Executive Spotlight interview, Ian Graham, vice president and general manager of federal civilian and health at Unissant, discussed AI adoption, federal health modernization and the company’s growth strategy. The company has since launched MissionWORKS to help federal agencies reuse tested technology capabilities, including iVision, a generative AI image intelligence capability developed with the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center.
On the national security side, Unissant named Air Force veteran Shaun Swartz VP of defense to oversee its Department of War growth strategy. It later appointed former Peraton executive Zeshan Khan as VP of enterprise solutions to support growth efforts tied to homeland security, defense and intelligence missions.
Unissant has also achieved Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification Level 2 status, receiving a perfect score with zero findings from an authorized third-party assessor.
