1. DHA Managed Care Support (MCS)

Humana Government Business Inc., headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, has been contracted to assist TRICARE’s East Region with managed care support. The Military Health System will provide health, medical, and administrative support services for qualifying beneficiaries using resources from the MCS contractor and the military’s direct medical care system.

This cost-plus-fixed-fee contract worth $40.5 billion for health care delivery has a base period of nine months, five one-year option periods, and a transition-out period. The Defense Health Agency’s Contracting Operations Division in Aurora, Colorado, will oversee the contractor’s operations.

2. DHA Tricare Managed Service Contract Extension

Humana’s contract extension aims to provide Tricare Health Benefits administration services for another year under a $3.8 billion bridging deal awarded by the Defense Health Agency. More than 240 million medical claims are processed annually by the company for the Military Health System.

Humana’s government business unit will keep serving almost 3 million southern United States Tricare program beneficiaries by providing health benefits management assistance and managed care services. The contract extension ensures South region care delivery through March 31, 2018.

3. Oklahoma Partially Privatizing Medicaid Program

The OHCA has selected Humana to deliver health care coverage to Medicaid beneficiaries across the state at the beginning of 2021. Humana’s subsidiary Humana Healthy Horizons is in charge of managing the program in Oklahoma.

Humana will help improve the Oklahoma Medicaid managed care program with the following:

  • Medicaid Expansion

Humana serves 270,000 Oklahomans throughout different business lines. The Oklahoma Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plan members receive combined medical, wellness, and pharmaceutical benefits from Humana.

4. DHA East Managed Care Service

  • Contract period: Until Dec. 31, 2022

The fixed-price East Managed Care Service Contract was granted to Humana Government Business Inc, worth $121 million. This contract modification to the Military Health System will replace the TRICARE Extra and TRICARE Standard with TRICARE Select,  as mandated by the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act.

Starting on January 1, 2017, and ending on December 31, 2022, the operations will spread across the eastern half of the United States at various military service component sites, contractor call centers, and within an integrated healthcare provider network.

5. DoD TRICARE East Region Contract

  • Contract period: 5 years (Released on July 21, 2016)

Humana Inc. received the TRICARE East Region contract from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) on July 21, 2016. The TRICARE program provides coverage for over 6 million beneficiaries consisting of military personnel, retirees, and their families in the 30-state service area.

Under the new contract, the TRICARE East Region will cover both the South and North regions. For TRICARE, the Department of Defense has five one-year options. Humana Government Business has managed seven DoD contracts since 1996.
