Chris Townsend, vice president of federal business at Symantec (Nasdaq: SYMC), has said agencies should work with industry to standardize cyber tools used to secure networks, endpoints and data in order to facilitate information sharing with other platforms.
œReducing complexity through standardization can enhance protection at every level and support a more robust approach to risk management, Townsend wrote.
He recommended that agencies develop an integrated security system as they transition workloads to the cloud, implement identity management measures and perform behavioral analytics on users™ activities in order to protect their information technology infrastructure from cyber threat actors.
œFor chief information security officers, those changes require moving away from being technology experts and becoming more focused on business analysis so that they can quantify the risks associated with a particular asset and invest resources wisely to minimize those risks, he noted.
Townsend also called on agencies and companies to build an “interoperable ecosystem” of cyber platforms to achieve operational efficiency, reduce costs and address complexity.
