Stephen Hager, a 34-year U.S. Army veteran, has been appointed to the newly created position of chief information security officer at Google‘s public sector organization.
He will report to Leigh Palmer, Google Public Sector’s vice president of delivery and operations, and be responsible for security, compliance and risk management functions specific to the unit’s products and infrastructure, the company said Monday.
The retired Army major general becomes the newest addition to security and CISO leadership teams under Google Cloud.
Hager was commissioned at the Army in 1987, joined the branch’s reserve component in 1995 and concluded his military service in February 2022.
He previously served as deputy commander of operations of the Cyber National Mission Force and as mobilization assistant to the commander at U.S. Cyber Command.
Part of his cybersecurity experience was spent in the private sector, where he worked for companies including Cisco Systems (Nasdaq: CSCO) and Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise.
