The State Department has approved Iraqs request to buy munitions, weapons, related equipment and logistics support services for F-16 fighter jets from the U.S. government under a potential $1.95 billion foreign military sales agreement.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agencysaid Wednesday that Iraq will use the weapons systems and logistics services to support pilot training and maintain the functions of its F-16 fleet.
Lockheed Martin(NYSE: LMT), Raytheon (NYSE: RTN), United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), UTC’s Pratt and Whitney subsidiary, The Marvin Group, Michael Baker International and the Royal Jordanian Air Academy will serve as principal contractors for the sale.
Iraq’s purchase includes Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing Systems, AIM-9M Sidewinder missiles, AGM-65D/G/H/K Maverick missiles, general purpose bombs, Paveway II and III laser guided bomb tail kits, M61 Vulcan Rotary cannon, FMU-152 fuzes, MK-82 and MK-84 inert bombs, repair parts and spares.
The FMS contract also covers training resources, aviation contract logistics services, technical support and documents, contract engineering services and base operations support as well as the assignment of 400 contractor and government personnel in Iraq to perform maintenance work through 2020.
DSCA said it informed Congress of the potential FMS deal Friday.
