The State Department has cleared Singapore’s request to procure Lockheed Martin-built (NYSE: LMT) fighter jets and Pratt & Whitney-made aircraft engines through a potential $2.75B foreign military sales agreement.
The FMS deal covers the procurement of as many as 12 F-35B short takeoff and vertical landing aircraft and up to 13 F135 engines, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Thursday.
The possible sale will also include electronic warfare, trainer, command-and-control and navigation systems as well as training, integration, software development, logistics and transportation services.
DSCA noted that Singapore is buying F-35Bs to expand the Southeast Asian country’s air-to-ground and air-to-air defense assets and support coalition missions with allied and partner forces.
The agency notified Congress of the proposed deal Thursday and said the transaction will not require overseas deployment of additional U.S. government or contractor personnel.
