Commercial quantum computing and networking company IonQ has signed a definitive agreement to acquireVector Atomic, a company specializing in advanced quantum sensors for positioning, navigation and timing applications.
Expanding Quantum Technology Offerings
IonQ said Wednesday the planned acquisition is intended to expand its quantum technology portfolio. By integrating Vector Atomic’s advanced PNT systems, including rackmount optical atomic clocks, synchronization hardware, gravimeters and inertial sensors, IonQ will become the only quantum company with a full range of advanced commuting, networking and sensing capabilities.
Under the agreement, IonQ will absorb all 76 employees and 29 patents, further strengthening its position as a leader in quantum technology. Vector Atomic’s experience securing over $200 million in government contracts will also contribute to IonQ’s expansion into the quantum sensing market.
Remarks From IonQ & Vector Atomic CEOs
“Integrating Vector Atomic’s sensing capabilities across our compute, networking and space portfolios will advance our mission to provide scalable, commercial-grade quantum solutions for our customers today,” said Niccolo de Masi, chairman and CEO of IonQ.
“Together, we will accelerate the commercialization of quantum sensing technologies and enhance quantum computing and networking capabilities,” said Jamil Abo-Shaeer, CEO and co-founder of Vector Atomic.
