GovCon Expert McAleese Highlights First US-China Meeting Under Biden Administration, Afghanistan Drawdown

A new McAleese & Associates report rules-based international order, military activity, trade and cybersecurity were touched on by Secretary of State Antony Blinken (2021 Wash100 awardee) and White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan during high-level talks in Anchorage, Alaska, with their Chinese counterparts.

Jim McAleese, founder of McAleese & Associates and three-time Wash100 winner, reports that director of Yang Jiechi, China’s Central Foreign Affairs Commission Office, said at the meeting that the Asian country aims to meet “basic modernization” goals in 2035 and reach “full modernization” status by 2050.

Wang Yi, Chinese state councilor and foreign minister, noted that China is calling on the U.S. to stop internal affairs interference.

In his report, McAleese also cites news that President Joe Biden is considering extending by six months the Department of Defense’s May 1 deadline to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan.

“I’m in the process of making that decision now as to when they’ll leave,” the president told NBC News.
