A Federal Register notice published Friday says the policy amends the Federal Acquisition Regulation to ban the video-sharing application or successor apps developed by ByteDance on certain equipment used in the performance of a federal contract.
In February, the Office of Management and Budget directed agencies to remove TikTok from government devices and ensure that contracts do not contain requirements that may include the use of the Chinese-owned social networking service.
The interim rule applies to devices owned by the government, contractors and employees, including those that are used for an employer bring-your-own-device program.
Personally-owned devices not used in relation to the contract are exempted from the prohibition and contracting officers are required to include the prohibition in solicitations issued on or after June 2.
Solicitations issued before the effective date but scheduled to be awarded after must be amended by July 3, according to the notice.
