The Department of Defense said Wednesday the multi-year effort is under a $481.9 million contract modification recently awarded by the U.S. Army.
The joint venture had been working to destroy the chemical weapon stockpile at the Blue Grass Army Depot near Richmond, Kentucky. In July 2023, it destroyed the remaining 523 tons of stockpiled munitions at the site ahead of the September 2023 deadline.
During the closure phase, Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass will decontaminate the areas of the plant that have come into contact with the chemical agent and then dismantle the equipment.
The contractor will perform work in Richmond, Kentucky, and is expected to complete the phase by March 30, 2037.
Army Contracting Command, which manages the contract, obligated $84.6 million in fiscal 2023 research, development, test and evaluation funds at the time of the award.
