BAE Systems has won a potential $164 million contract from the U.S. Navy to design new mechanical components for a shipborne missile canister system installed on destroyers and cruisers.
The company said Tuesday it will design, develop, test and sustain components of the Mk 41 Vertical Launch System‘s legacy and existing configurations.
BAE’s U.S. subsidiary will primarily perform work in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Brent Butcher, vice president of BAE’s weapon systems product line, said the contract reflects the company’s role in supporting warfighting technology for the Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and Ticonderoga-class cruisers.
The Mk 41 VLS is intended to fire a wide variety of missiles such as the Tomahawk, the Seasparrow and the Standard Missile systems.
