BAE Systems has secured a follow-on contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to create machine learning tools for U.S. military personnel to gain space situational awareness.
The company said Monday its FAST Labs research-and-development team aims to construct data models and cognitive-based ML algorithms to help space asset operators validate potential threats and unusual space activities under phase 2 of the Hallmark Tools, Capabilities and Evaluation Methodology program.
According to BAE, it will build on efforts performed under the program’s first phase and utilize the Multi-INT Analytics for Pattern Learning and Exploitation system with the MAPLE Automates Joint Indications and Warnings for Cognitive Counter-Space technology.
Hallmark-TCEM efforts seek to augment decisionmaking tools and facilitate understanding of space events. The agency plans to integrate resulting phase 2 tools into the Hallmark Software Testbed.
John Hogan, product line director of BAE’s sensor processing and exploitation group, said the company aims to provide a technology that automate the prediction of space launches or satellite activity.
