The U.S. Army has issued a request for information to identify industry partners capable of meeting full-rate production demands for the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, or HIMARS, launcher.

According to the Dec. 3 RFI posted on SAM.gov, responses are due by Dec. 23.
The Army Contracting Command-Redstone Arsenal in Alabama is seeking white papers from interested companies detailing relevant past experience, manufacturing capabilities for producing M142 HIMARS launchers, and facility and supply chain partners with available capacity, beginning in fiscal year 2027.
The submissions will help shape the Army’s acquisition strategy, performance specifications and statement of work for the production effort.
What Is the Scope of the Army’s Proposed Follow-On HIMARS Launcher Procurement?
For fiscal years 2027 and 2028, the Army anticipates procuring between 48 and 192 HIMARS launchers as part of the full-rate production phase.
Additional support services may also be required, including recurring production, engineering changes, systems engineering, program management, spares, integrated logistics support, equipment training and other support equipment.
The procurement will support not only the Army but also the U.S. Marine Corps and foreign military sales partners.
What Is M142 HIMARS?
M142 HIMARS is designed to launch the Multiple Launch Rocket System family of munitions and missiles to support tactical forces and can be transported through the C-130 aircraft. The launcher consists of a fire control system, a chassis and a launcher module that performs all operations needed to complete a fire mission.
Built by Lockheed Martin, HIMARS can carry a six-pack of guided multiple-launch rocket system rockets, two precision strike missiles or one ATACMS missile. It can deliver long-range precision strikes. The system’s shoot-and-scoot capability helps improve crew and platform survivability in high-threat environments.
In May, the Army awarded Lockheed a $742.2 million contract to produce and deliver HIMARS.
