Christopher Carson has been named an independent board member at AMERICAN SYSTEMS. The appointment took effect on Monday, Sept. 14, the company said Wednesday. He joins President and CEO John Steckel; Vice President of Human Resources Chris Braccio; Chairman Peter Smith, a three-time Wash100 Award winner; and fellow independent director Dave Dacquino, a two-time Wash100 awardee.
Carson will chair the board’s audit and finance committee, taking over from Barry Broadus, who held the role for nine years.
Who Is Chris Carson?
Carson is a government contracting industry veteran with more than 40 years of experience auditing, consulting and managing finances for federal contractors. Before joining AMERICAN SYSTEMS, he served as chief financial officer of Ultra Safe Nuclear Corp., overseeing financial operations and capital-raising efforts.
He also spent years as managing partner at Argy, Wiltse & Robinson and BDO USA, retiring in 2018 after helping grow the firms’ government contracting practice from six employees in 1994 to more than 250. Carson also served as corporate controller at Dual and Ogden.
What Did CEO John Steckel Say About the Appointment?
Steckel said Carson’s experience leading financial and compliance management for government contractors makes him a strong addition to the board and that his expertise will support the company’s continued growth.
The appointment follows other recent leadership changes at AMERICAN SYSTEMS. Former Lockheed Martin executive Lauren Kilcoyne officially joined the company in January as chief operating officer. In April, Douglas Ward was promoted to vice president and director of digital systems solutions, responsible for work involving submarine systems, unmanned underwater vehicles, acoustics, cyber, software development and analytics.
