The U.S. Air Force plans to award Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) a potential 10-year, $4.8 billion contract to extend support services for the military branch’s RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aircraft systems.
Northrop’s aerospace systems sector would continue to develop, produce, update, retrofit and sustain systems under the follow-on, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quality (IDIQ) contract, according to a FedBizOpps notice posted Tuesday.
The Air Force’s Global Hawk Program Office seeks to establish an initial five-year ordering period for the IDIQ and expects the overall performance period to last through fiscal 2030.
According to the notice, the government plans to award the contract through a sole-source acquisition process. RQ-4 UAS is designed to fly at a high altitude for more than 30 hours and collect imagery of large areas in real time.
