Brian O’Donnell, vice president of cybersecurity solutions at Carahsoft Technology, said strategic partnerships among industry players could help accelerate government agencies’ access to innovative cybersecurity technologies and strengthen their defenses against vulnerabilities and sophisticated cyberattacks.
In an article published on Carahsoft.com, O’Donnell said adversaries have greater opportunities to exploit vulnerabilities, infiltrate networks and compromise sensitive data as agencies become more reliant on interconnected systems.
How Does Carahsoft’s Partnership With NightDragon Support Agencies?
The Carahsoft VP noted that the company formed a partnership with NightDragon, an investment and advisory firm that backs growth-stage and later-stage companies across cybersecurity, safety, security and privacy, to help agencies get faster access to new security tools. He explained that Carahsoft handles distribution, contracting and reselling for those companies across the public sector.
According to O’Donnell, the partnership helps agencies defend against AI-driven attacks, ransomware and supply-chain breaches. He added that it also helps agencies secure operational technology, roll out zero trust frameworks, and build stronger, more resilient systems.
What Challenges Are Agencies Facing in Today’s Cybersecurity Landscape?
O’Donnell stated that threat actors now use AI tools to perform phishing scams, credential theft and faster vulnerability scans, allowing attackers to move with greater speed and precision. To improve mission outcomes, he noted that agencies are also turning to AI. But this shift brings new risks tied to weak integrations, data exposure and AI model manipulation.
O’Donnell explained that a growing web of vendors and service partners is raising supply chain risk.
“Securing these interconnected environments requires greater visibility, stronger risk management practices and a comprehensive approach to cyber resilience,” he wrote.
He added that agencies are also working to lock down operational technology and build out zero trust systems. According to the Carahsoft executive, outdated IT infrastructure and a shortage of skilled staff make this harder.

O’Donnell noted that the two companies co-host the Billington Cybersecurity Summit each year. He explained that the event brings together federal, state, local and tribal officials with industry experts to share ideas and address new cyberthreats.

According to the VP, the event gathers chief information security officers, government officials, and tech and business leaders. They meet to discuss ways to advance cybersecurity innovation and collaboration.
