A U.S. Air Force program office has kicked off the solicitation phase for a follow-on program seeking rocket platforms designed to carry more than 400 pounds of payload.
The service branch said Wednesday it will accept industry proposals for Orbital Services Program-4 through Aug. 29 and intends to award multiple positions on the OSP-4 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract by the end of the year.
“The program balances technology, mission risk and schedule while leveraging rapidly evolving market forces to cultivate a resilient and affordable launch capability for U.S. government needs, said Rob Bongiovi, director of launch enterprise at the Space and Missile Systems Center.
USAF will use the IDIQ to procure launch services for up to 20 missions over a nine-year period. The service branch aims to launch future satellites within 12 to 24 months from the issuance of competitive task orders via the OSP-4 contract. Work under the current iteration of the program expires in November.
