Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) will manufacture and deliver a dozen units of the F-16 Block 70 aircraft to Jordan’s royal air force under a finalized agreement between the Middle Eastern country and the U.S. government.
Jordan ordered the fighter jets in a move to strengthen defense capabilities and enhance combat readiness and interoperability with the U.S., the Royal Jordanian Air Force Command said Thursday.
The deal comes less than one year after the State Department approved a $4.21 billion foreign military sale request from Jordan for F-16 C and D models and associated equipment.
Jordan also requested to buy engines, modular mission computers, embedded GPS inertial navigation systems, AN/APG-83 active electronically scanned array radars and Link 16 low-volume terminals.
Rohit Nepal, U.S. deputy chief of mission in Amman, and Brig. Gen. Pilot Muhammad Fathi Hiasat, commander of the Jordanian royal air force, signed the F-16 procurement deal.
