The Iron Fist APS, known for its “Hard Kill” capabilities, is designed to protect light and heavy armored platforms from anti-tank threats in open terrain and complex urban environments, Elbit Systems said Tuesday.
It offers precise detection technologies and capabilities to detect, identify and classify threats and respond to hostile fire threats, such as rockets, guided missiles, unmanned aircraft systems and loitering threats, in various engagement scenarios without endangering operators or harming the defending platforms. The second-generation APS series, which the Israel Defense Force has been using, utilizes a blast interceptor to defeat threats without initiating its warhead.
Commenting on the recent award, Yehuda Vered, general manager of Elbit Systems Land, said the follow-on contract indicates that the company offers a high-quality APS that contributes to empowering the U.S. armed forces and other NATO customers and boosts Elbit’s support of the Israeli Defense Forces.
