Harris Corp. (NYSE: HRS) has won a $98 million contract to upgrade the Federal Aviation Administrationâs weather data and flight-planning system for the aviation community in Alaska.
The company will also test and maintain the system under the Operational and Supportability Implementation System II program, Harris said Thursday.
âOASIS is critical to ensuring the safety of general aviation aircraft operating in Alaskaâs challenging weather conditions and remote mountainous terrain, â said John OâSullivan, vice president of NextGen initiatives within Harris government communications systems.
The contract contains three base years of performance and seven one-year options.
The OASIS program is also intended to supply a messaging system to help flight service personnel identify hazards and view radar and satellite imagery.
