Cherokee Nation Government Solutions, a Cherokee Federal company, has received a $99.3 million contract from the U.S. Navy to sustain the protective and life-support equipment sailors use during operations.

Cherokee Federal said Wednesday the contract, which has a performance period of five and a half years, was awarded through a competitive small business set-aside under the SeaPort-NxG contract vehicle.

What Is the Scope of the Navy Contract?

Under the contract, the company will support the Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division, or NSWC PCD, along with fleet organizations around the world. The work spans the full life of the equipment, from the time it enters inventory through its deployment and use in operations.

Cherokee Federal will provide program management, logistics, inspection and repair, asset sustainment, warehousing, kitting and distribution, as well as field support at locations worldwide.

The equipment covered ranges from life-support systems and personal protective gear to firefighting and damage-control systems, anti-terrorism systems used aboard ships, and chemical, biological and radiological defense equipment. The company will fit, inspect, test, repair, track and distribute these items to keep them available for operational use.

What Did Cherokee Federal Officials Say About the Navy Contract?

Tom Watson, president of Cherokee Federal and a two-time Wash100 awardee, said the company’s team has the technical skills and discipline to keep the equipment ready wherever the fleet operates.

“When a Sailor’s safety depends on the equipment we support, there’s no room for error,” said Watson, who was named to the role in September. “We are honored to have the opportunity to support this important mission to help keep our Sailors safe.”

Seth Wanger, executive general manager at Cherokee Nation Government Solutions, said the contract calls for logistics, sustainment and operational expertise beyond equipment management.

“Our team understands the demands of supporting fleet operations around the world, and we’re proud to bring that experience to NSWC PCD and the Navy,” he added.

What Is Cherokee Federal?

Cherokee Federal is a Tulsa, Oklahoma-based government contractor that serves as the federal contracting division of Cherokee Nation Businesses, the business arm of Cherokee Nation. The company has over 5,000 employees supporting federal customers around the world.

The Navy award adds to its portfolio of defense work involving sustainment, integrated logistics and operational services.

The contract follows several recent milestones for the company. In April, Cherokee Federal achieved Level 2 certification under the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification program. In July, Cherokee Nation Solutions Link was selected as the sole awardee of a General Services Administration enterprise modernization blanket purchase agreement, while Cherokee Nation Government Solutions secured a spot on NASA’s Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement VI governmentwide acquisition contract. Cherokee Nation Government Solutions was also one of three companies selected for a $400 million Air Force multiple-award indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for civil engineering support in the Pacific.

In early October, Cherokee Federal named Terri Malone, a former Serco North America executive, chief growth officer.
