Army Awards Shift5 $99M Contract to Support Next Generation Command and Control

  • Shift5 advances from early prototyping to becoming part of NGC2 program
  • Its platform turns weapon system data into alerts for soldiers and readiness insights for commanders
  • The company joined NGC2 in February through Anduril

The U.S. Army has awarded Shift5 a five-year, $99 million contract to support the service branch’s Next Generation Command and Control, or NGC2, initiative. The company said Thursday the award moves it beyond early prototyping and makes its technology part of the program.

What Will Shift5 Provide Under the Army NGC2 Contract?

Shift5’s operational intelligence platform pulls data from military weapon systems and converts it into usable information, whatever the platform type or communication protocol. The system pushes urgent alerts directly to soldiers and feeds a steady stream of data into logistics and situational-awareness tools. It is designed to provide commanders with a perspective on fleet readiness across theaters simultaneously.

“By delivering near real-time visibility into every platform, the Army can make faster, more informed sustainment decisions at enterprise scale,” said Toby Magsig, CEO of Shift5.

Magsig highlighted the company’s capability to unlock data “trapped inside these systems” to support software, analytics and artificial intelligence applications.

How Did Shift5 Join the Army’s Command and Control Modernization Effort?

Shift5 joined the initiative in February through Anduril Industries, connecting its technology with Anduril’s Lattice software. The company also took part in live NGC2 demonstrations during two military exercises, Ivy Sting and Project Convergence.

The Army launched NGC2 to overhaul command and control by bringing commercial technologies together into a single ecosystem.

What Other Defense Work Has Shift5 Pursued?

The Army award follows several moves to widen Shift5’s defense footprint. In January, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Boeing to pair the latter’s predictive maintenance data with Shift5’s onboard hardware and cybersecurity analytics, starting with the C-17 Globemaster III.

Shift5 raised $75 million in a Series C round led by Hedosophia in September 2025, with Booz Allen Ventures among the participants. In November 2024, the company secured a spot on a potential $975 million Air Force Rapid Sustainment Office indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract. It also offers its platform to government buyers through Carahsoft.

In 2024, it partnered with Booz Allen Hamilton to provide organizations in the defense and transportation sectors with cybersecurity awareness and maintenance intelligence.
