Shift5 has confirmed Toby Magsig, a U.S. Army veteran, as president and CEO, promoted three executives and added a legal chief to its executive leadership team following what the company described as its strongest first quarter on record.

In a statement published Tuesday, Rich Clarke, chairman of Shift5’s board and a retired Army general, said the appointments reflect the board’s confidence in the leadership team as the company expands across defense and critical infrastructure markets.
“This team has been executing at the highest level, and Toby has led them with the focus and discipline you expect from a combat-proven leader,” noted Clarke, former commander of U.S. Special Operations Command.
Along with confirming Magsig as president and CEO, Shift5 promoted Samantha Segall to chief growth officer, Ryan Sublett to chief financial officer and Sam Rajachudamani to chief strategy officer, and added Fred Rudesheim as chief legal officer and general counsel.
Who Is Toby Magsig?
Magsig has served as Shift5’s president and interim CEO since January. He joined Shift5 from L3Harris Technologies, where he served as vice president and general manager of enterprise autonomous solutions.
His 26-year military career included time as commander of Joint Modernization Command at Army Futures Command and head of an airborne infantry brigade.
Who Are the Other Members of Shift5’s Executive Leadership Team?
- Fred Rudesheim, chief legal officer and general counsel, joined Shift5 from law firm Shook, Hardy & Bacon’s Washington, D.C., office. Before entering private practice, he served in the Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps.
- Ronak Shah, chief technology officer, continues to lead the company’s engineering and product teams.
- Ryan Sublett, chief financial officer, oversees finance, accounting and business operations and leads the company’s capital strategy.
- Sam Rajachudamani, chief strategy officer, leads corporate strategy, partnerships and long-range planning initiatives.
- Samantha Segall, chief growth officer, manages federal sales, marketing and external affairs functions supporting the company’s growth across defense and critical infrastructure markets.
What Is Shift5?
Shift5 is an operational intelligence company founded by former military officers who helped establish the U.S. Army Cyber Command and conduct weapons system cyber assessments. The company develops technologies designed to support cybersecurity, maintenance and operational readiness across defense and transportation platforms.
The company has expanded its presence in the defense market through funding, product development and contract awards. In 2023, Shift5 secured $33 million in additional Series B funding in a round led by Moore Strategic Ventures.
Two years earlier, Shift5 launched a predictive maintenance tool designed to help the Department of War and platform operators perform maintenance functions on defense weapon systems. In 2020, Shift5 received a contract from the Air Force Cyber Resiliency of Weapon Systems office to deliver cyber capabilities to warfighters.
