Gibbs & Cox, a Leidos (NYSE: LDOS) subsidiary, has secured a potential five-year, $318.7 million contract to help the U.S. Navy design surface combat ships, with an initial focus on the next-generation guided missile destroyer.
Contract work supports the development of future combatant platforms and will initially drive design, technology integration and industry engagement efforts for the DDG(X) program, Gibbs & Cox said Thursday.
The Navy envisions DDG(X) as successor to the branch’s Arleigh Burke class, or DDG 51.
“As a key member of the original DDG 51 class design team, we are proud to continue our legacy of support to this cornerstone of the U.S. Navy’s capability,” said Ray Sheldon, chief operating officer at Gibbs & Cox.
A Congressional Research Service report says the service requested $121.8 million in fiscal 2022 research and development funds for the program.
