Northrop Opens New Colorado Facility for Missile Defense, Strategic Deterrent Work

Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) has opened a new facility in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where its teams will work to deliver missile defense capabilities and strategic deterrent systems to government and military customers.

The company said Monday the new building has advanced engineering, research laboratories and software development factories, and features high speed communications network for its staff.

“Our new labs and collaborative zones better enable us to deliver innovative solutions that help to protect and defend our nation and its allies,” Blake Larson, corporate vice president and president of Northrop’s space systems business, shared during the ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday.

According to Northrop, the new facility provides the aerospace and defense company with more space that could support future expansion and growth opportunities.

The Northrop team works on the U.S. Air Force’s Ground Based Strategic Deterrent program. The company was awarded the GBSD prime contract in September 2020 for the system development and delivery of an initial operational capability by 2029.

Some other work under the SDS team are the specialized warfighter development contract with the Missile Defense Agency and a Prototype Infrared Payload experiment with the Space Development Agency. It also supports efforts on MDA’s Ground-Based Missile Defense and Command, Control, Battle Management Communication programs, and on Modeling and Simulation Contract – Framework initiatives.
