The U.S. Navy has launched a solicitation for an Office of Naval Research program aimed at developing and demonstrating a new air-breathing test model for hypersonic anti-ship missiles.
The Screaming Arrow initiative is seeking a controlled test vehicle to showcase air-breathing characteristics of hypersonic missile technology that could operate with the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet aircraft and an aircraft carrier, according to a notice posted on SAM.gov.
ONR, which plans to finance the innovative naval prototype effort starting in the current fiscal year, noted it will apply a programmatic approach that calls for the use of hypersonic air vehicle and propulsion technologies both in the government and defense industry.
The office intends to evaluate offers based on schedule, cost and maturation criteria such as key kinematic and physical attributes of the proposed system.
Interested parties can submit proposals through Sept. 30.
