The Defense Information Systems Agency has released a request for information on development and engineering requirements to support the establishment of an enterprise public safety communications network.
DISA said in a notice posted Wednesday on the beta SAM website that the Department of Defense is seeking information on “all aspects of what constitutes PSC” including an emergency services intranet hosted within the DoD Information Network.
According to DISA, the DoD intends to integrate an updated internet protocol-based Next Generation 9-1-1 system as well as computer-aided dispatch technologies into its Public Safety Answering Points.
The Pentagon also plans to deploy an Emergency Mass Warning Notification capability and modernize its land mobile radio networks.
Radio modems supporting the DoD's burglar and fire alarm panels must additionally be updated to support wireless Long Term Evolution or IP over Ethernet connectivity, the notice states.
DISA noted that the PSC network modernization program is meant to support its efforts to finalize an enterprise strategy for PSAPs owned and operated by the DoD ahead of initial fielding scheduled for fiscal year 2022 or early FY 2023.
