Jim Walker, federal chief technology officer and director of public sector marketing at UiPath, has said government agencies could use robotic process automation as an initial platform to begin investing in artificial intelligence to advance their digital transformation initiatives.
Walker wrote that RPA could help agencies improve the delivery of citizen experiences by “seamlessly working across multiple user interfaces on multiple platforms.”
He discussed how RPA could enable agencies to support to goal of the current administration’s American AI Initiative and cited how the technology benefits various agencies such as the General Services Administration, Internal Revenue Service and the National Background Investigations Bureau.
Walker said the Defense Logistics Agency’s move to field RPA in a Microsoft Azure environment reflects the combination of the œautomation first concept with œcloud first.
He noted how the automation first philosophy could allow agencies to integrate AI into their efforts and called on agencies to look at possible opportunities associated with AI adoption.
“To begin, agencies should concentrate on the most obvious AI opportunities ” those that involve multiple people in the same role performing standardized and manually intensive tasks,” he added.
