Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said Monday that they hit targets inside Syria, an action that would confirm they’ve extended the range of their solid-fuel missiles. Iran claimed the missiles, which flew approximately 400 miles and hit terrorist headquarters and depots in Syria’s Dayr al-Zawr province, were in response to ISIS’ bombing in Tehran.
Six ballistic Zolfaghar (Zulfiqar) missiles were launched from the Iranian provinces of Kermanshah and Kurdistan, an IRGC spokesman told the Tasnim News Agency, reported Janes. Photos of the ballistic missle launch were released by Iranian media.
The photographs show “a member of the Fateh-110 family of solid-fuel ballistic missiles,” reports Janes. “As well as being easier to deploy than liquid-fuel ‘Scud’-derivatives, these missiles are believed to have guidance systems that use commercial global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs) to make them far more accurate.”
