Mercury Systems has finalized the acquisition of Star Lab, in line with efforts to continue advancing the company’s capabilities to deliver secure processing technologies to the aerospace and defense industries.
Enhancing Cybersecurity Capabilities
The Andover, Massachusetts-based technology company said Thursday Star Lab is now part of its processing technologies business unit. The company brings its anti-tamper and cybersecurity software offerings to the table, providing Mercury with enhanced capabilities to safeguard mission-critical processors from advanced attacks.
The acquisition of the Wind River Systems subsidiary will expand Mercury’s portfolio of various products and services, including rugged servers, embedded processing cards, mixed signal cards, avionics and integrated processing services. The Star lab software can be seamlessly integrated with Mercury products.
Prior to the acquisition, the two companies had collaborated for over 10 years, integrating its advanced cybersecurity technology in its Common Processing Architecture and BuiltSECURE product lines. These products hinder reverse engineering and protect sensitive information even during a system breach, a capability required in defense applications for addressing attempts to exploit critical program information.
“Mercury is a leader in secure processing technologies for aerospace and defense platforms with unique expertise and IP related to advanced cryptography, secure boot and physical protection technologies,” said Tom Smelker, senior vice president of processing technologies at Mercury. “As holistic security becomes increasingly essential for government missions, the acquisition of Star Lab will allow Mercury to deliver an expanded portfolio of fully integrated security solutions to our customers and partners.”
