Former Internal Revenue Service Chief Information Officer Rajiv Uppal has agreed to join the advisory board of Tria Federal, the company announced Tuesday.

Tria’s advisory board currently includes former CMS Chief Operating Officer Jennifer Main and Sonny Hashmi, who served as CIO of the General Services Administration, as well as commissioner of its Federal Acquisition Service.

Who Is Rajiv Uppal?

Uppal has more than 30 years of experience, serving as CIO, chief technology officer and product development director across various organizations.

What Is Rajiv Uppal’s Career Background?

Uppal was the IRS CIO from January 2024 to April 2025. He led the agency’s tax processing digitization efforts as well as cybersecurity initiatives for taxpayer data protection.

Before becoming part of the IRS, Uppal spent more than five years at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as CIO and director of the Office of Information Technology. During his tenure, he received the Presidential Rank Award for being instrumental in modernizing CMS’ infomation technology infrastructure.

From 2016 to 2018, Uppal served as a digital service expert at the White House Digital Service. From 2012 to 2015, he was senior director of product development at Revionics, a company that uses artificial intelligence to develop software for retail price optimization. Uppal was president and CTO of New Haven, Connecticut-based Retail Optimization, which specializes in predictive and inventory optimization for stores.
