Fincantieri Subsidiary Books $1B Navy Constellation-Class Frigate Construction Contract Modification

Fincantieri’s U.S. business arm has secured a $1.04 billion modification to a U.S. Navy contract to design and build the service branch’s fifth and sixth Constellation-class guided-missile frigates.

Fincantieri Marinette Marine will perform detail design and construction services for the FFG 66 and FFG 67 under the fixed-price incentive contract modification, the Department of Defense said Thursday.

Work will occur in Wisconsin, New Jersey, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, North Carolina, Maryland and Georgia through April 2030.

Naval Sea Systems Command will obligate the full amount from the Navy’s fiscal 2024 shipbuilding and conversion allocation.

In April 2020, FMM secured a potential 15-year, $5.57 billion contract to manufacture up to 10 guided-missile frigates for the Navy.

The company received contract options for the second Constellation-class frigate in May 2021, the third frigate in June 2022 and the fourth frigate in May 2023.

FMM is expected to deliver the first frigate, USS Constellation, to the Navy in 2026.

The ship will serve as the Navy’s next-generation small surface combatant capable of operating in blue-water and littoral environments in support of joint maritime operations.
