Space Development Agency Previews Tranche 2 Tracking Layer Solicitation

The Space Development Agency has posted a draft solicitation for its planned procurement of space vehicles under the Tranche 2 Transport Layer program.

SDA is looking to award an other transaction authority to more than one vendor to support the development and deployment of 54 or more spacecraft with infrared sensors in six orbital planes for the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture T2TL, according to a notice posted Tuesday on SAM.gov.

The first orbital plane for Tranche 2 is projected to launch on April 30, 2027, with subsequent launches expected to follow at monthly intervals.

SDA noted the OTA may include additional prototyping of satellites and sensor payloads to inform constellation design requirements.

The agency estimates the PWSA’s tracking layer will have over 100 satellites across multiple planes.

Interested parties can submit feedback through July 20.

SDA Director Derek Tournear, a previous Wash100 awardee, will participate in a fireside chat session at the Potomac Officers Club’s 2023 Air Force Summit, an in-person event scheduled to be held on Tuesday, July 18, at the Hilton-McLean in Virginia. Register now!
