John Neuffer, president and CEO of the Semiconductor Industry Association, has commended the current administration and congressional leaders for enacting the CHIPS and Science Act, which he said will help strengthen U.S. national security, economy and semiconductor supply chains.
Neuffer said in a statement published Tuesday that semiconductor companies have announced billions of dollars in investments in chip production and innovation projects and job creation efforts since the introduction of the CHIPS Act.
His statement was in response to President Joe Biden’s state of the union address. In his speech, Biden highlighted the passage of the law to address the chip shortage and restore the country’s edge in manufacturing semiconductors.
Neuffer called on the administration to ensure the effective implementation of the measure to reinvigorate U.S. chip innovation and production.
“We also look forward to working with leaders in Washington to fortify America’s high-tech workforce, invest in basic research and innovation, and promote free and fair trade and resilient global supply chains,” he added.
