Leonardo Subsidiary to Build More Training Helicopters for Under $159M Navy Contract Modification

A subsidiary of Italy-based aerospace and defense company Leonardo has been awarded $159.4 million in contract options by the U.S. Navy to manufacture 36 TH-73A Lot III trainers and initial spares.

AgustaWestland Philadelphia will build the additional TH-73As in an effort to help prepare Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard student aviators for flying missions as part of the Advanced Helicopter Training program, Leonardo said Wednesday.

TH-73As are being produced at a factory in Philadelphia to replace the U.S. military’s TH-57B/C platforms.

Leonardo noted the Navy ordered the second aircraft lot through the award of a $171 million modification in November last year.
