Kiewit Lands $137M Army Contract for Everglades Ecosystem Restoration Initiative

Kiewit, an Omaha, Nebraska-based engineering and construction company, was awarded a $136.6 million U.S. Army firm-fixed-price contract to work on a Congress-authorized plan to restore the Everglades ecosystem in southern Florida.

The Department of Defense said Tuesday Kiewit Infrastructure South will perform work in Fort Pierce, Florida, for the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan through Oct. 14, 2025.

Kiewit, which won against four other bidders, was obligated the full contract amount the Army Corps of Engineers sourced from its civil construction funds in fiscal 2014 through 2021.

According to the Department of the Interior’s National Park Service, CERP is aimed at restoring, preserving and protecting the south Florida ecosystem as well as providing the region with water supply, flood protection and other water-related necessities.

The plan is considered as the U.S. largest hydrologic restoration project with its more than three and a half-decade timeline and $10.5 billion cost.
