According to a Capacity article published July 29, Iridium’s 66 NEXT satellites, which provide coverage for the Earth’s entire surface area, will work to make internet of things capabilities available to an estimated 80 percent of areas without access to cellular networks with the help of AWS IoT facilities.

Desch suggested that due to this technology, tracking vehicles and deliveries in these areas will be possible, and users will be able to use Iridium antennas with their current technology.

“We will be the first satellite company to make a partnership with a cloud company,” said Desch. “Our partners are already planning for it. We’ll start seeing more applications go faster.”
